Structural Fires Today

Why Modern Structure Fires Burn Faster

Modern fires spread faster than ever before due to synthetic materials in furnishings, interior finishes, and the growing use of lithium-ion batteries. These batteries, found in electronics, power tools, and electric vehicles, can reach thermal runaway and explode within 15 seconds of smoke detection. Firefighters need advanced tools to combat these high-intensity fires effectively.

Structural Systems

One system. Every scenario.

Smoothbore nozzles penetrate but barely cover. Fog nozzles cover but evaporate before they cool. BLADE™ combines big penetrating droplets with a wide linear pattern for superior surface cooling and effective gas contraction.  It's the best of both, in one quarter-turn.

BLADE Nozzle

Patented BLADE stream nozzles combine faster suppression up to 3x and water savings up to 67%.

TURBO Increaser

Raises hoseline back pressure by 25–30 PSI while keeping the nozzle at its intended pressure.

Live Burn Case Studies - Texas

HEN partnered with Hillsborough Fire Department in Hillsborough, Texas, to evaluate the BLADE™ 160 and TURBO in a live-fire acquired structure burn using modern fuel loads. Testing demonstrated the BLADE pattern’s ability to maintain droplet size and reach in superheated and unvented spaces, while transitional attacks did not create observed unsafe conditions for occupants; multiple-room fires were fully suppressed using 115 gallons of water or less, highlighting the pattern’s coverage and cooling efficiency.

Live Burn Case Studies - Oklahoma

HEN partnered with Quapaw Fire Department in Quapaw, Oklahoma, in March 2024 to conduct four modern fuel demonstration burns evaluating BLADE™ nozzle performance across realistic residential and garage fire scenarios. In the hallway and bedroom burn, the BLADE 160’s wide-pattern cooled surfaces and covered the hallway’s full width under post-flashover conditions; testing also demonstrated effective suppression and searchable conditions in unvented spaces and during simulated VES operations, highlighting the pattern’s coverage, cooling, and gas-contraction capabilities.
